Museum IPM
Museum professionals need accurate and current information  about monitoring and managing pests that can cause damage to irreplaceable artifacts.  The MSU Extension Service Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program, in collaboration with MSU Museum of the Rockies, Grant Kohrs Ranch, Rocky Mountains Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit currently provides Montanans with research-based information for implementing a pest management program designed for the specialized needs of museum collections.  The program consists of general information about IPM concepts, insect identification aids, monitoring, and control options for pests that are unique to the museum situation.
The Museum IPM program offers aids on the selection and integration of pest control strategies based on  results of timely monitoring and considers other factors, important in pest management decision-making including environmental, ecological, and sociological consequences.  The four basic steps of an IPM program are "Identification, Monitoring, Control and Evaluation".
